The 5th Bamin Tani Memorial Badminton Tournament got off to a flying start at a multipurpose indoor stadium in Ziro on Friday.
The tournament is organized annually by the 2007-08 batch of Dani Kunia Government Higher Secondary School in memory of former principal late Bamin Tani.
Overall 186 shuttlers from across the state are taking part in the tournament this year.
Arunachal State Badminton Association secretary Bamang Tago in his speech appreciated the alumni batch of the school for organizing the competition.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the batch for organising the competition in a befitting manner and promoting the sports,” he said.
Recalling contributions of late Tani, Tago said, “His virtuousness reflects in his students who have been paying tribute to him by organizing the tournament selflessly annually.”
“Ziro has the potential to host major tournaments in the future,” Tago said.
“Once the infrastructure is developed and road connectivity is improved, various tournaments can be held in the valley,” he reiterated.
The finals of the tournament will be played on Sunday.
