Anti-drug awareness drive gains momentum in East Siangโ€™s Mebo as police and community step up efforts to curb substance abuse.

Guwahati: As part of ongoing efforts to tackle drug abuse in Mebo subdivision of East Siang district, the Mebo Dolung Drugs Mimak Team organised a day-long awareness programme at the Mebo community hall on Thursday.

The initiative was conducted in collaboration with the anti-drug squad of Arunachal Pradesh Police under the supervision of East Siang Superintendent of Police,Pankaj Lamba. The campaign forms part of โ€˜Operation Dawn-2.0โ€™, which focuses on building healthier communities through localised sustainable development goals.

Authorities said that the campaign is gaining momentum, with several local organisations stepping up awareness efforts against drug trafficking.

โ€œOnce become addicted to contraband drugs, it is very difficult to bring back to mainstreamโ€, Oson Borang said, while urging the elders to play a responsible role in guiding youngsters in the right way

He also warned that unchecked drug abuse could harm future generations and urged volunteers to act responsibly within the law, while calling for greater community support.

Mimak Team general secretary, India Rukbo said drug-related cases have declined in Mebo following the launch of the โ€˜Nasha Mukt Mebo Abhiyanโ€™. He recalled the contributions of eminent persons of Mebo area including Kaling Tayeng, public leaders Mowha Borang and Kitem Tayeng, and advocate Nong Ratan for their active support.

Among others, Mebo Banggo-I ZPM Amping Ratan, Mebo village head GB Tokrom Ratan spoke and supported the efforts of the Mimak team and district police to curb drugs trade.
