A case under section 341/326/302/34 IPC was registered in the Itanagar Police Station on the basis of a complaint of assault by unknown persons lodged by the elder brother of the victim on June 14, 2017. As the investigations were making no headway, the case was later transferred to the SIT on June 4 this year.
In a letter to the CBI on Thursday, the Arunachal Pradesh Home Commissioner, while transferring the case submitted its gist along with the detailed reports of investigations made so far by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the State police.
“The State Government took cognizance that despite the case being registered more than a year ago, no substantive progress was visible and there were still no clues about the culprits. It viewed that investigations were not progressing satisfactorily compared to the seriousness and sensitivity of the case. Further, specialized and technical investigation is required by an expert police force to expedite the investigations,” stated the Chief Minister’s Office on Friday.

After the matter was examined by the competent authority based on recommendation made by the State Director General of Police, it was decided that the State Home Department would transfer the case to the CBI for speedy delivery of justice to the victim and the bereaved family members, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the AESDU, which has been spearheading the movement seeking justice for Taying, has welcomed the move of the State Government.
AESDU president Oyin Yosung while talking to Northeast Now, said, “The news has come as a big relief for the union and the family members of the late student leader.”
“The CBI should investigate the case on a fast-track basis and without any political interference so that justice is delivered to Taying and his family members,” said Yosung.
Questioning the efficiency of the SIT in solving the case and demanding for a CBI probe, the AESDSU had on June 28 observed a dawn-to-dusk East Siang district bandh. It had also on July 4 threatened to call a series bandh if its demand was not looked into.
“As our demand has finally been addressed, we will defer our agitation for now, however, we will continue to follow up the case till the time, the culprits are not sent behind the bars,” said Yosung.
Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal East constituency Ninong Ering had on Tuesday called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and requested the latter for a CBI inquiry into the murder case.
