Arunachal Governor visits Hansen’s disease sanatorium and Elam Industries

In the final leg of his three-day’s four district tour of Dibang Valley, Lower Dibang Valley, Anjaw and Eastr Siang Districts, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig (Dr) B D Mishra (Retd) visited the Hansen’s disease sanatorium, Pasighat.

Established during the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) era in 1960s, the sanatorium catered leprosy cases under the aegis of Srimanta Shankar Mission, Assam before it was taken over by the Arunachal Government after formation of the State.

Carrying on his effort to see the actual state of healthcare facilities in the different parts of the State in order to recommend necessary steps to the Government to improve it, the Governor interacted with the officials of leprosy programmes and also interacted with a leprosy patient.

East Siang District Medical Officer, Dr M Perme and District Leprosy Officer, Dr Tarik Talom briefed the Governor and the First Lady of the State about the facility.

State Nodal Officer for Leprosy programme, Dr Reema Das Tabyo and Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak were present on the occasion.

Before returning to the state capital, the Governor also visited both factories of Elam Industries. Elam Industries is the first mechanized textiles industry of Arunachal Pradesh, started by ex-serviceman, Group Captain Mahanto Panging, employing about 150 local persons, majority of them women.

It manufactures all types of school uniforms, military and police uniforms, sports jerseys, T shirts, track suits, ethnic gales, towels, silk products etc.

The Governor, who have been advocating and encouraging the people towards entrepreneurship, appreciated Group Captain M Panging, who has started the firm as an entrepreneur.

He said that such projects create employment for large number of local people.

Interacting with the factory workers, he encouraged them to work sincerely and become skilled workers.
