The Arunachal Pradesh Government has come under the line of fire from the Congress party for not inviting the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the citizenship bill to the State.
The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led State government did not persuade the JPC on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 to visit the State and take views and suggestions from the stakeholders.
The APCC also alleged that the people of Arunachal Pradesh are kept in the dark over the whole process of rehabilitation of the displaced Hindu Bangladeshis across the North-east.
The APCC also said that Arunachal Pradesh is also plagued by refugee problem, but the state was kept out of the purview of the JPC visit.
The APCC also demanded that the State government should clear the air regarding any clandestine meeting with the Union Home Ministry regarding the refugee problem in the State.
The APCC also demanded that an all-party meeting involving the NGOs, CBOs and senior citizens of affected districts be convened by the State Government to resolve the issue.
The APCC has, however, also hailed the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) decision to participate in the JPC meeting in Meghalaya.
The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has also expressed its apprehension over the ‘stoic silence’ maintained by Pema Khandu Government on the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
The party said that the bill poses serious threat to the very existence of the indigenous people in various north-eastern states.
The PPA had also warned of influx from neighbouring Assam after the publication of the National Registration Certificate (NRC) in Assam.
