The Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) is all set to organize the maiden Sub-Junior State Ranking Badminton Tournament-2019 at the State capital Itanagar from May 10 next.

“The three-day long tournament would be the first of its kind in the history of badminton in the State and we at ASBA believe that this would have a positive impact on all the promising young shuttlers,” Bamang Tago, the secretary of ASBA said.

Tago, who was addressing media persons at the Press Club in Itanagar, informed that the tournament would be held in the under-9, 11 and 13 categories for both boys and girls.

The ASBA secretary said that shuttlers from the State have every potential to win accolades in the global arena as well and keeping that in mind the association has decided to conduct the tournament three times in every calendar year so as to boost the budding talents.

“The objective of the tournament and is to create a sense of competitiveness among the children of the state who have opted for badminton as their profession,” Tago said adding that the tournament would eventually become be a calendar event of ASBA.

Tago also spoke of the free summer coaching camps organized by ASBA in several parts of the State under the theme of ‘Catch Them Young’ to nurture young talents.

Badminton as a sport has captured not only the minds of youngsters but has also immensely influenced the parents and elders throughout the State. It would not be wrong to say that it has become one of the most popular and ultimate games for all ages in Arunachal, Tago said.

Further disclosing that till date five youngsters have already been sent for national level couching, he added that the Capital Complex would soon have six badminton coaching centers particularly for the children.
