Guwahati: On May 6, the Arunachal Pradesh government approved a 2% increase in dearness relief (DR) for retirees and dearness allowance (DA) for serving employees, raising the rate from 58% to 60% of basic pay and pension.

The updated DA and DR will take effect from January 1, 2026, according to a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office.

The additional DA will apply to all regular state government employees, central government personnel on deputation to the state, and all India Service officers employed by the Arunachal Pradesh government. Pensioners and family pensioners will also be eligible to the revised DR.

The action comes after the Center decided that it will increase pensioners and central government employees’ dearness relief and allowance.

According to the administration, the revision will help 40,477 pensioners and 69,248 regular employees in the state.

This development is expected to cost the state exchequerย  Rs100.54 crore annually. The cash payment of arrears for the Januaryโ€“April 2026 period will result in an extra expense of Rs. 33.51 crore.

Pema Khandu congratulated government workers and expressed hope that they would keep working hard for the state’s citizens’ well-being.

The updated DA and DR will be paid in addition to monthly salaries and pensions starting in May 2026.
