The young artistes of Karpung Karduk Folk Music Academy, East Siang in Arunachal Pradesh led by renowned artiste, lyricist and music composer Delong Padung staged a week-long theatre demonstration of mythology of Solung festival- the main agriculture based festival of the Adi tribe.

The young artistes during demonstration performed drama on Miri Aabang (priest song) pertaining to Solung mythology at 10 selected villages of East Siang district bordering to Assam.

The demonstration based on the living traditions included the mystery of origin and evolution of the universe, civilization of mankind and development of agricultural practices on the mother earth.

The artistes of the folk music academy with the help of Mizoram based regional office of Sangeet Natak Academy, Ministry of Art & Culture, Government of India earlier conducted 10-day drama workshop on Mirii Aabang at Rayang village and chalked out work plan for its demonstration at different villages during the occasions of Solung festival.

Artiste Padung, who is also a national board member of Art and Culture, observed that many people of the state, and even some cultural researchers, are unaware of the mythological significance of Aabangs (Liimiir-Libom, Ekop Taktor and Binyat Aabang) pertaining to Solung festivities.

“I hope that dramatic expression of the mythological facets would make the young generations to understand and they will be impressed to preserve their traditional culture”, said Padung while informing that his effort has gained plebiscite support from the community members.

The week-long theatre show started on September 1 was concluded on Friday night.
