Guwahati: The 62nd anniversary of the Battle of Nyukmadung was observed with unwavering gratitude at the Nyukmadung War Memorial in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.
In the tranquil embrace of the Himalayas, this sacred site, nestled between Dirang and Sela Pass, stands as an enduring symbol of courage and sacrifice, Guwahati-based Defence PRO Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said.

It pays homage to the 62 Infantry Brigade, whose bravery on November 18, 1962, etched their names into the nation’s history.
On that fateful day in 1962, the soldiers of the 62 Infantry Brigade, led by Brigadier Hoshiar Singh, stood resolute against the advancing Chinese forces amidst harsh terrain and overwhelming odds.
While conducting a tactical withdrawal, they inflicted heavy losses on the enemy, embodying the very essence of valour and patriotism.

The Nyukmadung War Memorial, with its towering 25-foot-tall Chorten, stands as a hallowed space where stories of unparalleled sacrifice come alive to inspire future generations, he added.
This year’s commemorations brought the community, youth and veterans together in a heartfelt celebration of unity and heritage.
The day began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial.
With dignitaries, veterans, soldiers and the families of martyrs in attendance, this moment of reflection honoured those ‘who gave their today for our tomorrow.’
The stage came alive with heartfelt performances as students sang patriotic songs and performed traditional dances.

The Tibetan dance by LDL Monastery from Dirang added a soulful touch, with the vibrant expressions of heritage reminding everyone of the unity that binds us, he said.
The soldiers of the Indian Army captivated the audience with an electrifying Bhangra performance, celebrating strength and joy.
Their Gatka demonstration, which showcased the martial arts form’s grace and precision, stood as a testament to the discipline and courage ingrained in the armed forces.
The 30 SSB Battalion presented a spectacular dog show, showcasing the unwavering loyalty, agility and skill of their canine companions, who are critical in military operations.
The event concluded with heartfelt speeches by veterans who recounted their experiences, filling the air with a sense of pride and resolve.

Their words resonated deeply, reminding everyone present of the sacrifices that protect our freedoms and sovereignty, he added.

Lt Col Rawat said that as we remember the valiant soldiers of 1962, we stand united in our gratitude and are resolved to uphold the ideals they fought for.
