A day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters pulling down a statue of former Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin, saffron brigade brought down another statue of the revolutionary leader in Sabroom, about 50 km from Belonia, on Tuesday.
Police have filed a suo moto case in this connection.
A five-foot-tall fibre-glass Lenin statue at the College Square in south Tripura’s Belonia was uprooted and flattened by BJP supporters with the help of bulldozers on Monday.
It had been inaugurated by senior CPM leader Prakash Karat a few months ago.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said his party will launch country-wide protests and he and other leaders staged a march in Kolkata on Tuesday evening.
On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to the state’s Governor and the DGP and asked them to ensure peace till a new government was installed. Singh was in the Northeast to attend the swearing-in of the Conrad Sangma-led Meghalaya government.
