Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated the Alternate Housing Complex at National Games Village in Imphal West district on Thursday.
The inauguration programme was organised by Manipur Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD).

The complex will accommodate the residents of Government Quarters located at New Checkon, Imphal East which was dismantled for the construction of multi-storied buildings.
The Planning and Development Authority, Manipur is the implementing agency of the housing complex, which was constructed at the cost of around Rs. 58 crores.
The project is funded by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO) and the State Government.

Speaking on the occasion the CM informed that the Alternative Housing Complex is being constructed at an area of 2.16 acre of land.
The buildings are constructed using Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF), he said, adding that the LGSF technology has the benefit of reducing dead weight (60 per cent) compared to RCC buildings and is suitable for high seismic zones, especially for places like Manipur falling under seismic zone-V.
He continued that the housing complex consists of five blocks, with a total of 180 dwelling units.
N. Biren also informed that the Government has plans to construct another view tower at Langol Hills, apart from the two view towers that had already been constructed.
He also mentioned the plan to connect the view towers with the Recreation Centre adjoining the Lamphelpat water body by cable car.
