The Students’ body staged a protest in Tinsukia against the lackadaisical attitude of the government towards the two paper mills.

Recently, Assam government said the Centre has decided to hand over Hindustan Paper Corp’s defunct Cachar and Nagaon paper mills to a third party to revive the units at an estimated cost of Rs 1,800 crore.

“The government is doing nothing for the revival of the two paper mills. The government is only giving assurance for the revival of the paper mills but doing nothing and the condition of the workers has been deteriorating,” Kanchan Bora, Secretary of the AJYCP Tinsukia unit said. He said they have submitted a memorandum to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal through Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner regarding the revival of the two paper mills.

The Nagaon unit’s last production day was March 13, 2017 with an output of 270 tonne against an installed capacity of 300 tonne a day, while the production at Cachar Paper mill has been stopped since October 2015.
