The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) burned the effigy of SK Bhuyan, Director, Elementary Education, Assam at Pragati Bhawan in Kokrajhar demanding immediate re-advertisement and circular for regular teachers for lower primary in Bodo medium schools.
The ABSU members during the protest also urged the Directorate of Elementary Education, Assam to make arrangement for online application for Bodo medium teachers’ appointment with immediate effect and allow the candidates in the Sixth Schedule areas to apply online without any condition.
Talking to reporters, Kastom Basumatary, Education Secretary, ABSU said that it is a matter of serious concern for the Bodo medium education that the government of Assam has been showing its discriminatory attitude.
Basumatary said, “Despite knowing the fact that there are several vacant posts lying in Bodo medium schools in primary, upper primary and secondary levels, the State through a notification (EAA/SIU/125/2018/22, dated March 11, 2018) mentioned that out of total 5395 posts, the vacant posts in different mediums for which applications have been sought include Assamese – 4070, Bengali – 1267, Hindi – 52 and Hmar – 4 but there is no mention of Bodo medium though the medium exists in every major district of Assam.”
Demanding fresh advertisement and circulation of the same mentioning posts in Bodo medium, he added, “Through this notification, the government has proved it to be a deliberate conspiracy to vanish the Bodo medium in the State. We condemn this conspiracy and demand immediate rectification of the circular and demand immediate circulation of fresh advertisement clearly mentioning the vacant posts in Bodo medium and also conduct separate TET for Bodo medium and upload online application form for the interview.”
