The NSCN (IM) rescued a taxi driver from the clutches of two car lifters and recovered his vehicle from 2 ½ Mile area here. One of the car lifters was also apprehended by the outfit.
NSCN (IM)’s “union territory” secretary Ghokuto Chishi, in a release on Friday, said personnel of the “union territory” rescued the abducted driver and recovered the car, a Maruti Wagnor, on the night of December 30.
One of the perpetrators, Abdul Haigh of Kasherkapam in Karimganj district of Assam, was also held, the release said.
Abdul’s accomplice, suspected to be the main culprit, Osman Ali of Mangaldai in Assam escaped.
The two car lifters reportedly hired the vehicle in Guwahati to travel to Dimapur on December 29. On their way on the day, they halted for the night in Kaziranga. After reaching Dimapur on December 30, the driver, hailing from Chandmari in Guwahati, was drugged by the two and the vehicle stolen.
On being informed, the NSCN (I-M) personnel of “union territory” rescued the driver and recovered the vehicle. The driver was in an unconscious state at the time of his rescue.
He regained consciousness after four days, Chishi said.
The NSCN (I-M) said the rescued driver is in its safe custody. It asked the owner of the vehicle to claim it from the “union territory” office in Dimapur within seven days by producing relevant documents.
