Every Indian citizen, including a child below 5 years, can apply for Aadhaar card.

The Aadhaar card, which is a 12-digit identification number, can be used as an identity (ID) proof.

The card is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

UIDAI in a tweet said the children below 5 years are provided a blue-coloured Baal Aadhaar Card and as soon as he or she attains the age of 5 years, the card becomes invalid.

“A child below 5 years gets a blue-colored #BaalAadhaar & becomes invalid when the child attains the age of 5 yrs. The mandatory biometric update is required to reactivate it,” UDAI tweeted on April 1.

“To update your child’s Aadhaar, book an appointment: https://appointments.uidai.gov.in/bookappointment.aspx,” UDAI added in the tweet.

The Aadhaar Card issued to such children is called Baal Aadhaar Card.

How to apply for a Baal Aadhaar Card?

The Aadhaar enrolment process for children is quite similar to that of adults.

The parents of the children can go to the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre and fill the enrolment form and submit the same offline.

The Aadhaar card is issued to a child free of cost.

In the case of a child below 5 years of age, no biometric data is captured.
