The 6th Baukhungri festival will start from Wednesday at Harinaguri, 10 km from Kokrajhar town with a four-day colourful programme.

Various colourful programmes including hill trekking, paragliding, ethnic food festival, indigenous games and cultural programmes will be held during the four-day festival.

Celebrated traditionally as ‘Baokhungri Hajw Gakhwnai’ or climbing of Baokhungri hill by the Bodo people on the auspicious day of Sankranti, a day before Bwisagu or Bihu, the Tourism Department of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) has been promoting the traditional customs organizing annual Baokhungri Festival for the last six years in a grand way, by introducing various adventurous sports like paragliding, hill trekking competition to attract visitors from outside.

Perched at 1491 feet above sea level, Baokhungri peak is tucked away about 10 km southern part of Kokrajhar town. The hill lies within the Chakrachila Wildlife Sanctuary, the home to endangered golden langur and other wild animals and flora & fauna.

Addressing media persons, BTC Executive Member Daneswar Goyary said the organizing committee has made all necessary arrangements for success of the festival. He said the Baukhungri festival this year will be organized in a more big way with various added attractions for the visitors.
