The Karbi Longri & North Cachar Hills Liberation Front’s signing of the Suspension of Operation (SOO) with the Central government completed 8 years on Sunday.
“During these 8 years, 55 rounds of talks have taken place with the Central government on the issue of formation of a separate hill state,” stated KLNLF General Secretary Thong Teron.
The Karbi Longri & North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF) during a function at the KLNLF liaison office, Birla in Diphu, observed the 8 years completion of the ceasefire with Central government.
The programme was attended by all ranks and files of the outfit on Sunday.
KLNLF General Secretary Teron in a written statement said, “Since the formation of KLNLF on March 22, 1994 to 2018 it has completed 24 years of existence. But on February 11, 2010, the KLNLF signed for Suspension Of Operation (SOO) or ceasefire with the Central government.”
The KLNLF’s main objective is attaining a separate homeland for the Karbis under Article 3 of the Constitution and till now it has adhered to it.
Teron also stated that in the 8-year journey after signing the ceasefire agreement the outfit has experienced many ups and downs towards achieving its goal.
He expressed his gratitude for the unfailing support being offered by the masses to the KLNLF.
Teron regretted that in spite of the mass support it has not received much encouragement from the elected representatives like MP, MLAs, Chief Executive Member, Executive Members and Members of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.
Teron hoped that in the coming days the public as well as the elected representatives would extend their support for achieving their goal.
KLNLF Chairman P Dilli asked the leaders and cadres of the outfit to remain in the organisation and work together in achieving the demands of the organisation.
Dilli urged all the leaders and cadres not to lose hope, but to continue to extend support towards their efforts to have a separate state under Article 3 of the Constitution for the Karbis.
Dilli also appealed to the general public, intellectuals and elected representatives for their support.
In the morning, the organisation’s flag was hoisted by outfit Chairman Dilli.
The observation was attended by KLNLF Vice-Chairman Habe Tokbi, Publicity Secretary Rijak Dera and others.
