The Khelo India Selection Committee (KISC) has selected 4 weightlifters and one shuttler from Arunachal Pradesh under its Khelo India Scholarship Programme.

“The selection of the four athletes namely Sankhar Lapung (55 Kg), Charu Pesi (55 Kg), Markio Tario (61 kg) and Posen Kongkang (55 kg) was made on the basis of their performance during the trials at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Aurangabad,” Arunachal Weightlifting Association general secretary Danial Teli said.

In all 7 weightlifters from the state has participated in the trials that was conducted at SAI, Aurangabad from July 25 to August 25 last, Teli added.

The selected four, would now be placed at different Khelo India-accredited academies, including 21 non-SAI academies approved by the committee where they would be provided the best coaching and education possible.

With the selection the athletes would also be eligible for an annual (yearly) stipend of Rs 1.2 lakh, but on quarterly basis to meet their expenses related to treating injuries and also smaller elements like local travel.

Besides weightlifting, the KISC has also selected state’s ace shuttler Laa Talar in the badminton category under the scholarship programme.
