At least 48 people were injured as the hanging bridge over Paso river at Namara area in Pakke Kessang district of Arunachal Pradesh collapsed on Saturday.
The incident took place when more than 50 picnickers were crossing the hanging bridge.
According to a report published on Saturday by Arunachal24.in, 10 of the injured have been shifted to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital in Sonitpur district.
The report quoted Pradip Kalita, officer-in-charge of Seijosa Police Station as saying that he along with the superintendent of police of and the deputy commissioner of Pakke Kessang district will visit the accident site on Sunday and enquire about the incident.
Meanwhile, till the filing of this report, no FIR was lodged in connection with the mishap.
The mishap site is a picnic spot along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
The incident took place at about 2 pm.
Immediately after the incident, the injured people were rushed to the Biswanath civil hospital in Assam.
The report quoted Jimy Cheram, superintendent of police of Pakke Kessang district, as saying that the incident took place as one of the ropes had snapped when more than 50 people were crossing the hanging bridge.
“Some managed to hold on but most of the others, including young children, fell into the ravine. The injured picnickers have been sent to Biswanath civil hospital,” said Cheram.
The place is favourite for the picnickers and several hundred of people gathered at the area for enjoying picnic when the incident took place, informed Cheram.
Meanwhile the the officer-in-charge of of Seijosa Police Station, Pradip Kalita has been assigned to investigate the incident.
