As many as 16 senior students of Central Institute of Technology (CIT) have been expelled from the institute for one semester and all of them have vacated the hostel of Jwhwlao Daimalu Boys’ Hostel in Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar.

The authority of the CIT said that on the basis of information received from different sources and subsequent verification of facts by the members of the Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad, a number of students have been found to be involved in ragging on the late evening of August 1, 2018 at Jwhwlao Daimalu Boys’ Hostel in Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD).

“The students have been expelled from the institute for one semester with immediate effect and were directed to vacate the hostel by August 3, 2018 positively. All the students have been vacated from the hostel,” said official sources.

The expelled students have been identified as Mridutpal Lahor, Dhrubajyoti Boro, Biswajit Das, Biraj Deep Phukan, Shekhar Basumatary, Dhanjit Daimary, Anupam Rajbongshi, Dhanjit Barman, Anupjyoti Boro, Dipankar Doley, Debubrat Gogoi, Nilson Daimary, Dipankar Deka, Gaurav Shyam, Ashim Rabha and Jawahar Jyoti Doley.

Kampa Borgoyary, BTC deputy chief, who is also the EM of the education department, said, “The CIT authority and I got complaints from junior students that the senior students of the CIT harassed the newcomers in the name of ragging in the Jwhwlao Daimalu Boys’ Hostel CIT in Kokrajhar.”

He added, “We have taken stern action against the students and sixteen students have been expelled from the hostel as well as from one semester.”

Borgoyary further said, “We never tolerate such kind of ragging and CIT is our holy institute for learning education and such type of ragging would not be allowed in the institute.”

He also said, “From outside the State and from various districts of the State, a number of students have been pursuing education at the CIT, so we do not want such ragging here in institute.”
