Assam Police on Friday arrested a person from Narengi Kamala Bagan area in Guwahati for sexually assaulting a six-year old minor girl. The accused has been sent to jail on Friday.

The 40-year old accused, a resident of the Narengi Kamala Bagan area, has been identified as Sameer Barman. Barman reportedly lured the girl to his home and committed the crime.

Talking to Northeast Now over phone, Bipul Kalita, sub-inspector of Noonmati Police Station said the heinous act took place on August 22 at around 11.30 am.

Kalita said that the incident came to light after the 6-year-old victim narrated the incident before her mother on August 23.

“Later, locals lodged an FIR at Noonmati Police Station on August 23 last after getting cognizance of the incident,” Kalita said.

A case (N 496/18) under section 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012 against the accused has been registered at the Noonmati Police Station.

In the last 24 hours two incidents of rape shocked the people of Assam. A 22-year old girl was found in an unconscious state on Friday morning at Agia in Goalpara district. The girl was gangraped by the man she trusted to be her lover and four others on Thursday night. Police arrested the main accused.
