The 3rd Guwahati Open Junior Tennis Championship 2018-19, which is one of the flagship tournaments of the State, organised by the Guwahati Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA), got off to a colourful start at the RG Baruah Sports Complex in Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.
Altogether 175 boys and girls from various parts of the region, in the age group under 12, 14 and 18 years are taking part in it.
The championship is carrying a total of Rs. 2.20 lakh as scholarship money.

Queen Ojha, vice-chairman, Sports Authority of Assam, inaugurated the championship in a well- attended colourful function.
She lauded the efforts of the GLTA for promoting the game with their objectives ‘Tennis for All’ and assured of all possible help in their future projects.
In the function, Rinki Bhuyan Sarma, Anirban Das, Pronoy Bordoloi, advisors of the GLTA, were also felicitated by the organisers. They were also introduced to all the participants.
Earlier, Kalyan Kumar Das, chairman of the organising committee welcomed the gathering and apprised them about the objectives and activities of GLTA.
Nabajyoti Kalta, organising secretary offered the vote of thanks.
