29th Road Safety Week observed at Diphu

The 29th Road Safety Week was observed by the District Transport Officer (DTO) on Monday.

On the occasion, a procession was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner, Karbi Anglong, Mridul Kumar Mahanta in presence of Executive Member, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Transport and Food & Civil Supplies, Pradip Diphusa.

The programme was also attended by Karbi Anglong DTO Sidhartha K Saikia; Executive Engineer, Transport Separtment, KAAC, Modhu Kro and Principal, Diphu Govt Girls High School, Amitabh Shome.

School children of Diphu Govt Girls High School, auto-rickshaw drivers and others participated in the procession.

The procession started from Kareng Bus Stand to Diphu market via Semson Sing Ingti Memorial Park and ended at the bus stand.

In the public meeting, EM, KAAC in charge of Transports and Food & Civil Supplies Pradip Diphusa urged the public to obey traffic rules to avoid accidents.

He said, “Machines should not override us, but we should control machines. Due to violation of traffic rules and norms like not wearing helmets, using mobile while driving and drunk lead to death of many.”

Diphusa said that illegal parking takes place in Lahorijan along the Assam-Nagaland border. Deputy Commissioner Mahanta also urged the officials concerned to issue driving licences carefully.

He also spoke of the illegal parking in Diphu town, which is creating traffic congestion.

Earlier, DTO Saikia explained about the importance of obeying traffic rules for safety.
