Imphal: A 28-year-old youth was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a Fast Track Court in Manipur for the rape of a minor under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The accused Ngairangbam Bhubaneshwor a resident of Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai in Imphal East district and son of Ng Rajen Singh was convicted of raping the victim in 2017.

The case was taken after a complaint was lodged against the convict by the mother of the victim stating that her daughter was raped on August 24, 2017.
The Fast Track Court No 2 Manipur during the sentencing hearing on Friday ordered to undergo 10 years of RI for the offence under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, along with a fine of Rs 3,000.
He would have to undergo further simple imprisonment for three months in case of defaulting payment.

The court also additionally slapped two years of simple imprisonment to the convict under Section 451 of IPC, with a fine of Rs 1,000, and in case of default, another one month of simple imprisonment directing both sentences to run concurrently.
On the victim’s part, the court awarded Rs. 7 lakh for the physical and mental trauma endured during the incident, investigation, and trial period.
Further, the court also directed the state government to pay compensation intended for the victim’s future education, healthcare, and welfare, under the victim compensation fund or any other applicable scheme under Section 357-A of CrPC.
Moreover, the Court also informed the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Imphal East to provide maximum assistance in ensuring the survivor receives the compensation after proper enquiry.
