Uninterrupted water supply in Guwahati is likely to be a reality soon as Guwahati Jal Board has taken some measures to ensure smooth distribution of water in the city.
As part of this step, Guwahati Jal Board has initiated a recruitment drive and set to hire several employees.

“This recruitment drive has been started to hire for the posts of Operation Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Process Engineer, Asst. Operations Engineer, Asst Electro-Mechanical Engineer, Distribution Maintenence Engineer, SCADA Operator, MIS Engineer, IT Engineer, Sr. Administrative Officer, HR Officer, Data Entry Operator, Finance Manager, Accountant, Cashier, Collection Clerk and some other openings,” said a Jal Baord official.
Guwahati Jal Board will be taking up four water supply projects running simultaneously in Guwahati–South West Guwahati Water Supply project funded by Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM), South Central Guwahati Water Supply Project funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), North Guwahati Water Supply Project funded by JICA and South East Guwahati Water Supply Project funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
These four projects under Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) have almost been completed.

With Brahmaputra being the prime source for quenching the thirst of over 10 lakh denizens of the city compressed within an area of 216 square kilometres, only 30% of city residents get water supply from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board and the public health engineering department (PHED).
As per the 2011 census, Kamrup (Metro) district has only 56% households equipped with an improved source of drinking water facility.
