Security forces and police personnel intensify counter-insurgency operations in Manipur.

Imphal: In the last week 18 cadres of different underground outfits were arrested as the central and state forces intensified counter-insurgency campaigns in the valley districts of this sensitive border state.

Several arms, ammunition, and Rs. 2.22 lakh in cash have also been recovered in the operations during this period, officials said on Wednesday.

Rs. 1.9 lakh in cash has been recovered from three active members of the proscribed PREPAK organization who were arrested in an operation in Thangal Bazaar on May 17.

Moreover, Rs. 30, 000 extorted from general people has also been recovered when three cadres of the proscribed KCP (Taibanganba) were arrested from a hideout in the Khongjom area of Thoubal district on May 21.

A total of Rs. 2, 500 in cash was also confiscated from an activist of the proscribed outfit KCP (Taibanganba) in his arrest on May 16.

As per police report, the proscribed outfit RPF/PLA suffered a blow when its six activists were arrested from the Lamsang area in Imphal West on May 21.

Proscribed outfit KCP (People War Group) also suffered a bit setback when its four cadres were nabbed in the operation in Thoubal district on May 16. 

During this period, one cadre of UNLF (P) was also arrested in his extortion drive.

Interestingly, the UNLF (P) is under peace talks with the government of India currently.

The police said that the situation in the state was under control.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.
