At least 174 people have been trained in Guwahati on online fact checking and verification in the month of November this year.
Among those who were trained include 122 students of Mass Communication and Journalism, 10 faculty members and 42 working journalists.
Informing this, Monjib Mochahari, trainer, Google News Initiative –India Training Network, stated, “The programmes were conducted at Assam Don Bosco University, Cotton University, Royal Global University, North East Now and Guwahati Press Club.”
This training workshop is a part of pan-India initiative of Google News Initiative Training Network to support quality journalism and to curb the spread of disinformation and fake news in India. In this special workshop, Google certified trainer provided training on how to use different tools and strategies to identify fake news and debunk it, added Mochahari.
The programmes at Assam Don Bosco University, Cotton University, Royal Global University and North East Now were conducted by Google News Initiative certified trainer Monjib Mochahari, who also works as an Assistant Professor in Assam Don Bosco University and assisted by Jaikishan SG, who also works as an Assistant Professor at Assam Don Bosco University.
Meanwhile, Google News initiative certified trainer Makepeace Sitlhou conducted training n online fact checking and verification at Guwhati Press Club where 22 journalists participated.
As planned, more programmes will be conducted in different parts of Northeast India in the coming months, Mochahari further informed.
