Sikkim government will provide jobs for 17,000 youths in the first phase of ‘One Family One Job’ scheme.
Chief Minister Pawan Chamling stressed upon the selection of genuine candidates for this scheme and urged public representatives to submit names after thorough scrutiny.

He stated that all adhoc and MR employees will be regularized in phase wise manner. He mentioned that the government will give priority to adhoc teachers in any interview based on their experience and other criteria.
Chamling had mooted the welfare scheme on November 14 to ensure financial security of the people of the Himalayan state and had said that the policy decision will come into effect in letter and spirit by December to enable the first lot of beneficiaries to join work from January 2, 2019.
Speaking at the state-level Panchayat and Organic Growers’ Sammelan was held at Saramsa Garden, Ranipool in East Sikkim on Friday, Chamling said Sikkim was the first State to start Krishi Pension.

The pension consists of Rs 1, 000 per month to all farmers of the State above the age of 50 years and pro-actively engaged in the profession of agriculture.
While calling agriculture and allied industries as ‘super industry’, he urged the youth to come forward and embrace the field. He encouraged youths to use the Start-Up Scheme of the Government in the field of agriculture entrepreneurship and allied sectors.
He explained that there was no risk and high demand in these sectors. He added that vegetable farming can turn into a lucrative profession because of the high demand for it. He mentioned that South Korea was keen on importing vegetables, especially cabbages from Sikkim.
CM announced that all barren lands will now be converted into aggro-forestry. He stated that officers of Forest Department and Agriculture & Horticulture Departments should help the people cultivate fruit trees and plants.
He announced that two Organic Farming Assistants and one Marketing Assistants will be appointed for every GPU to supervise organic farming. He added that they will visit every household to keep a record of the cultivation done by each family and to assess requirements of the farmers and challenges in marketing and to immediately report to senior officers at village level and solve problems.
He announced that Sikkim will be self sufficient in dairy products and perishable vegetables by 2020. He mentioned that 100 varieties of Rhododendron will be planted in Sikkim and to make the state a research laboratory. He added that 10,000 species of Orchids will be planted in Sikkim to make it a repository for the world where all varieties of Orchids can be found.
The event was jointly organized by Food Security and Agriculture Development Department, Horticulture and Cash Crops Development and Rural Management and Development Department.
A huge gathering of farmers, agro-entrepreneurs, panchayats, government officials and public representatives and stakeholders of Sikkim Organic Mission attended the event.
The venue has also witnessed displaying of organic produce by progressive farmers of the State.
On the occasion, the pension policy of the government to farmers above fifty years was officially rolled out with the CM handed over token pension benefit to farmers. Over one thousand farmers received token benefits in the programme.
