An RTI query has revealed that between 2017 to 2019, over 160 rape cases have been reported on railway premises and running trains.
The RTI query, filed by activist Chandra Shekhar Gaur, further revealed that 51 rapes were reported in 2017, 70 in 2018 and 44 in 2019.
The RTI query further revealed that 20 rapes were committed on running trains from 2017 to 2019 and 36 rapes were committed on railway premises in the period.
“A total of 165 rapes were committed from 2017 to 2019 on railway premises and running train,” the RTI query read.
“Of the rapes reported in 2019, 36 were committed on railway premises and 8 on running trains,” the RTI query said.
In 2018, of the 70 rapes, 59 were committed on railway premises and 11 on running trains.
41 rapes were committed on railway premises and 10 on running trains in 2017, the query revealed.
Apart from the rapes, 771 cases of kidnapping, 4,718 cases of robbery, 213 cases of attempt to murder and 542 cases of murders were also reported in these three years on railway premises and running trains.
