The Assam Pollution Control Board has issued closure notices to 16 marriage and banquet halls in Guwahati for flouting mandatory norms.
The board on Monday ordered closure of these 16 halls for not having an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), which was made mandatory by the Supreme Court of India.
The 16 wedding halls which have faced closure notice includes Celestial Vivah Bhawan at Panjabari, Brindaban Garden at Zoo Road Tiniali, Rambha Madhab Amrabati Marriage Hall at Hatigaon, Sagarika Bibah Bhawan at Patharquarry, Urba Bibah Bhawan at Barsapara, Jonbeli Bibah Bhawan at Sasal, Green Castle Marriage Hall at Kumarpara, Jonaki Kareng at Narikalbari, Manisha Bibah Bhawan at Hatigaon, City Den Party Hall at Bhetapara, Kalpana Bibah Bhawan at Narengi Tiniali, Algian Palace at Dispur Last Gate, Kanika Bibah Bhawan at Barowari, Town Hall Bhawan at Narengi, Haryana Charitable Trust at Kumarpara and Rishtey Bibah Bhawan at Rehabari.
ETPs are used for removing impurities and various types of waste from dirty or polluted water.
It is mostly used to release safe water into the environment and reuse the treated water for various purposes so that use of freshwater can be minimized.
The Supreme Court had earlier made it mandatory for hotels and restaurants to set up ETPs for treatment of waste water.
