The 159th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma has been celebrated by the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust (GKBT) with a two-day-long programme including a seminar on the life and work of Gurudev at Bodoland University, Kokrajhar from Wednesday.

Talking to media persons, Dr Ajit Boro, Secretary of the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust (GKBT) said, “The 159th birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma has been organised with a two-day-long colourful programme by the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust at Bodoland University, Debergaon in Kokrajhar from today.”

Boro informed that the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust (GKBT) was founded in 2008 with the objective to promote the ideological works of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma across the world.

Gurudev Karmachari Brahma, who was born in on April 18, 1860, had a speculative mission to work towards the all-round development of the Bodos. He began his work by preaching Brahma Dharma amongst the Bodos in 1906.

Under the leadership of Gurudev, the Bodos were benefited immensely. The use of Brahma as surname was started in 1912, the Brahma company was set up in 1912 and the Golapara District Bodo Satra Sannmilan was formed in 1919, Boro Mahasanmilan was held in 1951, Farmers Association was formed in 1923, Weaving Centre was set up in 1925, Village Development Committee was formed in 1925, Boro Manila Sanmilan was formed in 1925 under his leadership.

Under his leadership, a memorandum was submitted to Simon Commission in 1929 for the safety and existence of the Bodos and the ‘Boros Pandulipi’ was written in 1934.

Boro asserted that Kalicharan Brahma was given the title ‘Gurudev’ in the year 1905 because of his spiritual philosophy and strength. Gurudev was not only the spiritual leader but political, social, cultural, economical and educational revolutionist. He died on May 8, 1938.

The Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust has an objective to carry on his mission by upgrading and organizing various activities. Its main objectives is to spread and develop the philosophy of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma.

It has started conferring an award with the name and style of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award this year. This award is being conferred on an outstanding personality in the honour of his /her remarkable work and contribution in the following field of Brahma Dharma philosophy of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma.  This award contains a citation, a memento, End Aronai, Endi Chawl, a coat and an amount of Rs 50,000.

The topic of the seminar is ‘Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma: The multifaceted personality’.

Dr Sekhar Brahma, Registrar of Bodoland University formally inaugurated the seminar and Dr Kameswar Brahma, Padmashree Awadee, delivered the keynote address on the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma.

The Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust gave away Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Awardto Jageswar Brahma, chief preacher of Brahma Dharma Prasar Sangshad, he added.
