Manipur is hosting a five-day National Mime Festival that got underway on Thursday at Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory complex, Langthabal Kunja in Imphal.

This is for the first time that Manipur is hosting such festival. It was organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi in collaboration with Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory Manipur.

The inaugural programme on Thursday was attended by Padmashree S Thanil, Padmashree R K Achouba Singh and director of Jawahar Lal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy L Upendro Sharma as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

On the first day of the festival, ‘Love Your Nature’ directed by Y Sadananda Singh of Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory Imphal and ‘Bhakti Men Shakti and Ambedkar’ directed by Jitendra Tatwal of Madhya Pradesh Natak Loka Kala Academy, Ujjain were staged.

Eleven groups of artistes from various parts of India are participating in the event while there are two groups from host state.
