One worker identified as Prasanta Mohan of Moranhat in Sivasagar district was killed and three others were injured in a mishap at the Assam Renewal Project site of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Lakhmani in Lakwa under Sivasagar district on Wednesday morning.
A press communique from the Corporate Communications Division of ONGC, Nazira stated the mishap was reported at the under-construction ONGC site of Lakhmani ETP. The plant was under construction by M/s Megha Engineering Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL).
The communique said that four workers were affected due to a blast in one of the new tanks at the site. Out of them, three received injuries and one of them was declared brought dead to the hospital while one escaped unhurt.
The injured have been extended all help including medical with senior ONGC doctors having visited them and on the advice of the doctors at Pragati Hospital, Sivasagar, arrangements were made to take them to Dibrugarh for further treatment.
ONGC has taken up the matter with M/S Megha Engineering Infrastructure Ltd for prompt action to compensate the affected and to ensure safety aspects while executing the work, the communique said.
The management of M/S Megha Engineering Infrastructure Ltd has assured to take prompt action for providing due compensation and are in touch with family members of the affected, the communique further stated.
An official of ONGC said that Assam Renewal Project was one of the biggest and prestigious ongoing projects of ONGC and that M/S Megha Engineering Infrastructure Ltd had been entrusted the construction work.
Employees of Assam Asset, ONGC, Nazira have condoled the death of Prasanta Mohan and conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved family.
