National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC Limited), the largest electricity producer in the country, has won a tender to supply 300 megawatts (MW) of electricity to neighbouring Bangladesh for a period of 15 years, according to agency reports.

Agency reports quoted Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) had invited tenders for supply of 500 MW power from India for short term, that is, from June 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019 and long term, that is, from January 1, 2020 to May 31, 2033.

Vidyut Vyapar Nigam promoted by NTPC (NVVN), Adani Group, PTC India Ltd (PTC), another leading provider of power trading solutions in India and Singapore-based Sembcorp had filed bids by the scheduled date of January 11, according to reports.

Financial bid was opened on February 11, the NTPC said in a statement.

“NVVN, wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, emerged as successful bidder (L1), both in short term and long term for 300 MW power,” the NTPC statement said as reported by agencies.

However, the NTPC did not quote details of the rate at which power will be supplied to Bangladesh Power Development Board.

NTPC further said supply of electricity is likely to commence from June 2018 after commissioning of 500 MW HVDC inter-connection project between India and Bangladesh, reports added.

Mentionable that India currently exports around 600 MW electricity to Bangladesh presently.
