Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday, The Kathmandu Post reports. Quoting sources, the newspaper said the Nepal Prime Minister and Indian Ambassador discussed the ongoing political issues of Nepal during the meeting.
Indian Ambassador Puri had returned from India last week. PM Deuba’s secretariat officials informed that Puri had been trying to meet the PM since his return from Delhi. However, the meet was arranged on Friday.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the chiefs of three big political parties of Nepal on December 21 after Puri reached India. Modi had telephoned the leaders to express congratulations as Nepal had successfully held federal and provincial elections and their results declared.
Puri’s visit to Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Deuba, at a time when Nepal is gearing up to form a new government, has been viewed in a meaningful way.
The PM’s foreign affairs advisor Dr Dinesh Bhattarai, however, said that he was unaware of the meet. Similarly, spokesperson at Indian Embassy Ruby Jasprit, too claimed that she came to know about the meet through media.
