Guwahati: At least seven civilians, including six children, were killed when a Myanmar military airstrike struck Khaupuichiip village in western Chin State on Friday, according to local media and resistance groups.

The victims were between five months and ten years old, highlighting the severe toll on civilians.

Khaupuichiip lies along the Falam-Rihkhawdar road near the Myanmar-India border, around 39 kilometres southwest of Falam town.

Residents said a military jet dropped two 500 pound bombs at approximately 3 p.m., hitting a village playground where children had been playing. Besides the fatalities, about a dozen civilians were injured, some critically.

The attack occurred just days after the Myanmar military regained control of Falam on April 25 from the Chin Brotherhood, an alliance of Chin resistance groups, following a six month counter offensive.
