With a view to strength India-Myanmar border relations, in a first of its kind, the Singhat Battalion of Assam Rifles and Myanmar Army had organized a celebratory border post level meeting on the occasion of 73rd Myanmar Army Day on Tuesday.
The historic meeting of the security forces of both the countries was conducted with an aim to bring peace and tranquillity in the disturbed border areas marred by decades-old insurgency related problems resulting in under development.
Sources from the army said that the post commanders and troops from Behiang in Indian side and Chikka in Myanmar had held the meeting in Khenman, a border village in Myanmar.
The event started with a welcome note and greetings by the Myanmar Army, followed by exchanging gifts and mementos from both sides.
A friendly volleyball match was played by security forces from both sides to commemorate the event which was witnessed by large crowds consisting of local villagers.
As a noble initiative to extend a helping hand to the locals in the far flung border regions, Singhat Battalion also distributed 10 solar lights to Khenman villagers along with sports kits and scholarship to the needy and meritorious students.
