BSF jawan loses hand in Bangladeshi cattle smugglers’ attack with bombs

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has lost his right hand when a group of 25 cattle smugglers attacked him at Angrail near Bangaon in 14 Paraganas in North Bengal on Wednesday night.

He was attacked with country-made bombs.

Following the incident, an alert has been sounded along the India-Bangladesh border.

The Inspector General of South Bengal Frontier, Kolkata has taken serious view of the incident.

The IG has directed all field formations of the BSF to keep adopting aggressive posture against the trans-border criminals, who are active on Indo-Bangladesh border.

“This is really serious and quite often the Bangladeshi criminals used to attack our jawans,” said a senior BSF official at their headquarters in New Delhi.

According to reports, a group of 25 smugglers from Bangladesh made a forcible attempt to smuggle about 10-15 cattle heads into Bangladesh through Border Outpost, Angrail near Bangaonin 24 Parganas (North).

The smugglers were equipped with country-made bombs, dahs, hasia, sticks and high-beam torches.

The BSF troops deployed in the international border intercepted and challenged them when their suspicious movements of taking away the cattle into Bangladesh with the support of their Indian accomplices.

They were observed 200 meter inside the Indian territory near BP NO.17/125.

Smugglers dared to encircle BSF constable Anisur Rehman, who was on duty.

They directed high-beam light on the constable and lobbed one powerful country-made bomb with an aim to kill Rehman which blasted near him.

Subsequently, the smugglers lobbed another country-made bomb towards him which exploded on his right hand.

In the meantime, the BSF troops, who were on duty in the nearby ambushes reached the spot.

The smugglers, however, were able to flee under the cover of darkness.
