India has dispatched the first batch of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) tablets to neighbouring Bangladesh, Bhutan and several other countries including America, Brazil to fight against Covid- 19 pandemic.
“Neighborhood is important, so while dispatching the hydroxychloroquine drugs, we have kept our neighbours in mind,” said Damu Ravi, joint secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs.
He said the first batch of hydroxychloroquine has already been dispatched and in the coming days second and third batch will be delivered.
Anti-malaria drugs, hydroxychloroquine is on demand by several countries to fight against Covid 19 pandemic.
India is the largest manufacturer of this drugs.
“While giving hydroxychloroquine tablets to other countries, we have kept in mind for keeping buffer stock for our use,” said Laav Aggrawal, joint secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He said that India has 3.28 crore of hydroxychloroquine tablets in its possession for the current month.”We will produce more whenever the need arise,” said Aggrawal.
India till date has registered 6761 positive Covid 19 case with 6039 still active. As many as 206 people have died and 515 people have also been cured from this infectious disease.
