Bhutan: DNT Cabinet led by Prime Minister Lotay Tshering takes Oath

The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on Wednesday conferred Dakyen, the oath taking to Dr Lotay Tshering, officially making him the new Prime Minister of Bhutan’s third democratically elected government at the Tashichhodzong.

The King also formally appointed the Cabinet ministers of the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) led new government and granted Orange Kabney to Speaker Wangchuk Namgay and the Leader of the Opposition, Dr Pema Gyamtsho, according to a report in Bhutan Broadcasting Service.

Earlier on October 29 last, the King had issued a ‘Royal Kasho’ appointing Dr Lotay Tshering as the new Prime Minister following the DNT’s 30-seat win in the October 18 general election.

Dasho Sherub Gyeltshen from Monggar has been appointed as the Home and Cultural Affairs Minister.

Dasho Sherub Gyeltshen had previously served as the Secretary of the Dzongkha Development Commission (DDC).

The founding member of DNT, Dr Tandi Dorji is the new Foreign Affairs Minister.

He was a consultant paediatrician, a public health researcher and a technical advisor before entering into politics.

A former parliamentarian Karma Donnen Wangdi from Gelegphu has been appointed as the Information and Communications Minister.

He had served as a Member of Parliament in the National Council from 2008 till 2013.

Dechen Wangmo, the lone female member in the Cabinet has been made the Health Minister.

She was an independent Public Health and Social Development consultant.

The Prime Minister led his Cabinet ministers in taking the Oath of Allegiance in the Cabinet Hall on Wednesday.
