GUWAHATI: A tragic train accident occurred at Kalajharia railway station in Jharkhand’s Jamtara on Wednesday evening, resulting in multiple casualties.

According to a statement released by the Eastern Railway, the victims were walking on the track when they were run over by the Jhajha-Asansol Memu passenger train.

While the exact death toll remains unconfirmed, medical teams and ambulances have been deployed to the scene.

President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her deepest sympathies, saying, “The news of sudden death of many people in a train accident in Jamtara district of Jharkhand is extremely saddening. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office expressed condolences, stating, “Pained by the mishap in Jamtara, Jharkhand. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed sorrow, stating, “Anguished to learn about the unfortunate railway accident in Jamtara, Jharkhand. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of those who have been injured.”
