Guwahati: Over 100 people, mostly women, died in a stampede on Tuesday during a religious gathering (satsang) in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.
Women and children were among the casualties.
Visuals from the scene showed grieving families at the Community Health Centre where the bodies were taken.

Officials confirmed receiving 27 bodies, with 25 being female and 2 male. Details surrounding the cause of the stampede are still emerging, however, initial reports suggest overcrowding may have been a factor.

The police confirmed three children were among the deceased.
The stampede occurred in a village within the Sikandra Rao police station limits.
