Guwahati: Gitanjali Angmo, the wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, approached the Delhi High Court on Sunday seeking permission to shift him from Safdarjung Hospital to a private medical facility, saying she had “lost faith” in the treatment being provided. She also requested an urgent hearing on the matter.
In a post on X, Angmo alleged that hospital authorities informed the family Wangchuk’s potassium level had dropped to 2.9, describing it as an “alarming” and “life-threatening” condition. However, she claimed the hospital’s public health bulletin did not disclose the actual figure and only referred to “decreasing potassium levels.”
Angmo further said an independent laboratory test commissioned by the family showed Wangchuk’s potassium level at 3.5, which they described as falling within the normal range.
Expressing concern over the discrepancy, she said that if any harm came to Wangchuk, the hospital authorities and the government should be held accountable. She added that the High Court petition seeks immediate permission to transfer him before his condition worsens, arguing that families should have the right to choose where their loved ones receive medical care.
A day earlier, Angmo had also questioned the hospital’s transparency, alleging that doctors shared “medically impossible” potassium readings and refused to provide the family with a physical copy of Wangchuk’s medical reports.
