Guwahati: Delhi Police detained six individuals on Saturday during a protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, citing concerns over a possible confrontation between opposing groups.
According to police officials, the action was taken after security agencies received inputs indicating that tensions could escalate in and around the protest venue. Authorities feared that the presence of rival groups might lead to disruptions, prompting them to take preventive measures to maintain law and order.
A large number of people had gathered at Jantar Mantar for the protest, making security arrangements a priority for the authorities. Police personnel were deployed across the area to monitor the situation and ensure that the event proceeded peacefully.
Senior officers stated that the preventive detentions were carried out solely as a precaution and were aimed at safeguarding public order. Despite concerns over possible tensions, the protest remained largely peaceful and no incidents of violence or damage to property were reported.
The security situation continued to remain under control throughout the day, with police maintaining a strong presence in and around the protest venue to prevent any untoward developments.
