Guwahati: Singer Vishal Dadlani has extended support to the Cockroach Janta Party‘s (CJP) protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai on Friday, urging people to join the demonstration.
The protest is scheduled to begin at 4 pm at Gate No. 6 of Shivaji Park. The CJP has said the demonstration will mark the beginning of a nationwide campaign seeking Kumar’s resignation.
In a video shared by the CJP on social media, Dadlani urged people to join the protest and repeatedly chanted, “go Gyan go”. He later sang, “Jhola utha lo, go Gyan go”, while accusing Kumar of undermining democracy and the electoral system.
“Gyanesh Kumar ji, you destroy our democracy, election system, you have to go,” Dadlani said in the video.
The CJP has maintained that the electoral process and the right to vote are being undermined. The party has said its nationwide protest campaign will continue until Kumar resigns.
CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das on Thursday said the campaign would begin at Shivaji Park and subsequently be taken to different parts of the country.
“The protest will begin at Shivaji Park tomorrow, and from there, we will take this protest to the entire country. We will ultimately end it only when Gyanesh Kumar resigns,” Das said.
He alleged that the electoral system was affecting the rights and prospects of young people and said the campaign was focused on protecting the right to vote.
CJP chief and spokesperson Abhijeet Dipke also alleged that the BJP’s electoral gains were linked to decisions attributed to Kumar. He claimed that the BJP was winning elections based on what he described as Kumar’s “calculations”.
