Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway) is installing dual gate phones at the level crossing gates across its network in addition to the existing gate phones.
This initiative is expected to help reduce the failure duration of the existing gate phones that often lead to operational problems. It aims to significantly reduce punctuality losses and enhance safety measures, CPRO of NF Railway Sabyasachi De said in a press statement.

The introduction of dual gate phones facilitates seamless communication between the gateman and the station masters ensuring timely coordination. Out of the total 1,447 level crossing gates under the jurisdiction of the NF Railway, 1,030 gates have been provided with dual gate phones thus far, it said.
Moreover, the non-interlocked level crossing gates have also been provided with voice recording facilities. This initiative underscores the NF Railway’s commitment to improving railway efficiency and passenger safety, it added.
In Assam, as many as 290 gates in the Rangiya division, 163 gates in the Lumding division and 284 gates in the Tinsukia division have already been provided with dual gate phones, it said.

During June 2024, a total of four level crossing gates in the Rangiya division have also been provided with voice recording facilities, CPRO De further said in the statement.
