Guwahati: An Indian national has been killed in Kuwait after Iranian strikes hit a power and water desalination facility, taking the total number of Indian fatalities in the ongoing West Asia conflict to eight over the past month.

According to Kuwaitโ€™s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, a service building at the facility sustained damage in Sundayโ€™s attack, as reported by the state-run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). Ministry spokesperson Fatima Jawhar Hayat confirmed the death and said technical and emergency response teams were immediately deployed to manage the situation.

She added that specialised teams are working to secure the site while coordinating closely with security agencies and other relevant authorities. Kuwaiti officials described the strikes on the facility as โ€œbrutalโ€, though the exact location has not been disclosed.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait confirmed the death and expressed its condolences over the โ€œtragic demiseโ€ of the citizen. In a statement, the mission said it is in close coordination with Kuwaiti authorities to extend all necessary assistance to the affected family.

Authorities in Kuwait maintained that the countryโ€™s electricity and water supply systems continue to function normally despite the damage to the facility.

The latest fatality follows a similar incident last week in the United Arab Emirates, where an Indian national was among two people killed after debris from intercepted missiles fell in a populated area.

The incidents underscore the growing risks to civilians, including foreign nationals, as hostilities continue to escalate across the West Asia region.
