Guwahati: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha and Sikkim, along with the Union Territories of Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu. The exercise aims to update voter lists and ensure that all eligible citizens, particularly young and first-time voters, are included ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.

Draft electoral rolls on November 30

The ECI will publish the draft electoral rolls on November 30. It will release the final rolls on January 21, 2027.

The Commission has asked the chief secretaries of the respective states and Union Territories to provide adequate manpower and resources for the exercise.

Difference between SSR and SIR

The Special Summary Revision updates existing electoral rolls. It adds eligible voters and removes ineligible entries.

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR), launched in 2025, follows a different process. It involves preparing electoral rolls afresh.

Last month, the ECI ordered the SSR in states and Union Territories where it had completed the SIR. These include Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

SSR schedule for other states

The ECI said it would announce the SSR schedule later for Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland, the National Capital Territory of Delhi, Tripura and Telangana.

The SIR remains underway or has recently concluded in these states and Union Territories.

The Commission will separately announce the revision schedule for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. It will take local weather conditions into account while finalising the schedule.

The ECI skipped the annual SSR in 2026 because it was conducting the SIR in phases across the country.
