NEW DELHI: Star cricketer Mohammed Shami is being considered by the BJP for nomination in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, reports claimed.

While Shami, who represents Bengal in the Ranji Trophy and is currently recuperating from surgery, has been approached by the BJP leadership, he is yet to decide on the proposal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his best wishes for Mohammed Shami’s swift recovery post-surgery.

Shami, lauded by PM Modi for his stellar performance in the ODI World Cup, where he claimed 24 wickets in seven matches with impressive averages, received individual praise from the Prime Minister following India’s loss in the finals against Australia.

Amidst his recovery, Mohammed Shami met with union home minister Amit Shah, and plans for the construction of a cricket stadium in his native village in Amroha, announced by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, further highlight his growing recognition beyond the cricket field.
