In a viral video circulating on social media platforms, it appears Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is affirming that Narendra Modi will continue as Prime Minister after the 2024 general elections.

The 56-second clip shows Gandhi addressing a rally, seemingly stating, “Narendra Modi will remain the Prime Minister of India. I want to tell you the truth, on June 4, 2024, Narendra Modi will remain the prime minister. You can take it in writing; Narendra Modi may become the Prime Minister of India.”

Additionally, he suggests that their alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh won’t secure any seats.

The video gained traction across X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube. Archived versions of such posts can be accessed herehere, and here.

However, upon closer examination by Logically Facts, it’s revealed that the clip was manipulated. In reality, Gandhi expressed the opposite sentiment, stating that Modi will not retain his position after June 4, 2024.

Conducting a reverse image search, the original video (archive here) was traced back to the official YouTube channel of the Indian National Congress (INC), published on May 10. This video captures Gandhi’s joint rally with leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav in Kanpur.

In the unaltered footage, around the one-minute mark, Gandhi clearly states, “Let me tell you the truth in the beginning. This is something the Indian media will never tell you but this is the truth. On June 4, 2024, Narendra Modi will not be the Prime Minister of India. Take this in writing, Narendra Modi ji can’t become the Prime Minister of India. We have done what we had to do, we have worked hard, now you see that our alliance will not get one seat less than 50 in Uttar Pradesh.”

Furthermore, between the 2:30-minute to 2:49-minute mark, Gandhi reiterates, “They are also smiling because they also know that what Rahul Gandhi is saying is true and Narendra Modi will not become the prime minister, end of story. As we say in English, goodbye, thank you.”

The highlighted section in the manipulated video falsely implies Gandhi’s support for Modi, while in reality, Gandhi consistently asserts that Modi will not reclaim the prime ministership. Consequently, the claim has been debunked as false.
